Gathering Music

Welcome & Greeting

P. welcome EVERYONE to this special Sunday service, geared toward children of all ages! There will be wiggly children who have difficulty sitting still-- it’s okay! There will be babies who cry out at times-- it’s okay! Today is about telling and teaching the story of our faith. It takes ALL of us to do this. Sing out (even if you’re a little out of tune). Embrace moments of laughter. And hear the story of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection with new ears.

We’ll begin our service with the children’s procession of palms! They will be waving their branches and singing to God!

Children Singing and Processing with Palms

Gathering Hymn: All Glory, Laud, and Honor (ELW #344)

Confession & Forgiveness

P. God is Holy! He gives us life and helps us to see the world through the eyes of his love.

C. Amen!

P. We are human beings who mess things up and do bad things. Let us admit our sins to God and ask for his forgiveness.

Pray to God about your sins in this silence.

P. We admit it, God:

C. We have been mean to other people. We have not done everything we can to love our family and friends. We have not always done kind things for others. Help us to be better. Forgive us and help us to feel your love. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

P. There is Good News! God loves everyone God has ever created. And through Jesus, we are forgiven even our biggest messes and mistakes. Remember this. And do your best to honor God by showing love to others.

C. Amen.

Kyrie

P. This is one of the oldest prayers in Christianity. Kyrie Eleison (kee-ree-ay aylay-son) means “Lord have mercy.” Every time I say a line of the prayer, you will respond by saying “Lord have mercy.”

P. In peace, let us pray to the Lord.

C. Lord, have mercy.

P. For the peace that comes from heaven, and for the promise of heaven, let us pray to the Lord.

C. Lord, have mercy.

P. For peace to reach the whole world, for the health of the Church of God, and for the unity of all, let us pray to the Lord.

C. Lord, have mercy.

P. For this church, and for everyone who came to worship and praise God, let us pray to the Lord.

C. Lord, have mercy.

P. Help us, save us, comfort us, and defend us, Good Lord.

C. Amen!

Prayer of the Day

P. Let us pray together.

C. Lord, help us to hear the story of your love for us. And then help us to share it with others so that everyone can know how much Jesus loves us! Amen.

Apostles’ Creed

Pastor. Let us proclaim together our Apostles’ Creed

Congregation: I believe in God, the Father almighty,

Creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord

He was conceived by the power of the Holy Spirit

and born of the virgin Mary.

He suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried.

He descended into hell.

On the third day he rose again.

He ascended into heaven,

and is seated at the right hand of the Father.

He will come again to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen

Psalm Psalm 31:9-16

9Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I | am in trouble; my eye is consumed with sorrow, and also my throat | and my belly. 10For my life is wasted with grief, and my | years with sighing; my strength fails me because of affliction, and my bones | are consumed. 11I am the scorn of all my enemies, a disgrace to my neighbors, a dismay to | my acquaintances; when they see me in the street | they avoid me. 12Like the dead I am forgotten, | out of mind; I am as useless as a | broken pot. R 13For I have heard the whispering of the crowd; fear is | all around; they put their heads together against me; they plot to | take my life. 14But as for me, I have trusted in | you, O Lord. I have said, “You | are my God. 15My times are | in your hand; rescue me from the hand of my enemies, and from those who | persecute me. 16Let your face shine up- | on your servant; save me in your | steadfast love.” R

1st Reading Philippians 2:5-11

5Let the same mind be in you that was in Christ Jesus, 6who, though he was in the form of God, did not regard equality with God as something to be exploited, 7but emptied himself, taking the form of a slave, being born in human likeness. And being found in human form, 8he humbled himself and became obedient to the point of death— even death on a cross. 9Therefore God also highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, 10so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bend, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11and every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.                                                                                                                                            Gospel

P. I invite the children forward to get some good seats for our Gospel and message today! We have a special guest for our message today, so make sure you don’t want to miss out.

Matthew 21:2-11

2saying to them, "Go into the village ahead of you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her; untie them and bring them to me. 3If anyone says anything to you, just say this, 'The Lord needs them.' And he will send them immediately." 4This took place to fulfill what had been spoken through the prophet, saying, 5"Tell the daughter of Zion, Look, your king is coming to you, humble, and mounted on a donkey, and on a colt, the foal of a donkey." 6The disciples went and did as Jesus had directed them; 7they brought the donkey and the colt, and put their cloaks on them, and he sat on them. 8A very large crowd spread their cloaks on the road, and others cut branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9The crowds that went ahead of him and that followed were shouting, "Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord! Hosanna in the highest heaven!" 10When he entered Jerusalem, the whole city was in turmoil, asking, "Who is this?" 11The crowds were saying, "This is the prophet Jesus from Nazareth in Galilee."

and forgive us our trespasses,

as we forgive those

who trespass against us;

and lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from evil.

For thine is the kingdom,
