GATHERING: This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God.
ANNOUNCEMENTS:
GATHERING SONG: In His Temple Now Behold Him (417) vs 1-2
Peace (ELW p. 152)
Confession and Forgiveness (ELW p. 94).
In the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
God of all mercy and consolation, come to the help of your people, turning us from our sin to live for you alone. Give us the power of your Holy Spirit that we may confess our sin, receive your forgiveness, and grow into the fullness of Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.
Amen.
Let us confess our sin in the presence of God and of one another.
Silence is kept for reflection.
Most merciful God,
(ALL)- we confess that we are captive to sin and cannot free ourselves. We have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbors as ourselves. For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ, have mercy on us. Forgive us, renew us, and lead us, so that we may delight in your will and walk in your ways, to the glory of your holy name.
Amen.
In the mercy of almighty God, Jesus Christ was given to die for us, and for his sake God forgives us all our sins. As a called and ordained minister of the church of Christ, and by his authority, I therefore declare to you the entire forgiveness of all your sins, in the name of the Father, and of the ☩ Son, and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
Kyrie
In peace, let us pray to the Lord.
For the peace from above,
and for our salvation,
let us pray to the Lord.
For the peace of the whole world,
for the well-being of the Church of God,
and for the unity of all,
let us pray to the Lord.
For this holy house,
and for all who offer here their worship and praise,
let us pray to the Lord.
Help, save, comfort, and defend us, gracious Lord.
Canticle of Praise
Glory to God in the highest,
and peace to God’s people on earth.
PRAYER OF THE DAY:
Let us pray. A brief silence is kept before the prayer.
(ALL)- O Lord Jesus, make us instruments of your peace, that where there is hatred, we may sow love, where there is injury, pardon, and where there is despair, hope. Grant, O divine master, that we may seek to console, to understand, and to love in your name, for you live and reign with the Father and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Pastor:: St. Paul writes: There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit gives them. There are different ways of serving, but the same Lord is served. There are different abilities to perform service, but the same God gives to everyone ability for particular service. The Spirit's presence is shown in some way in each person, for the good of all. (1 Cor. 12:4‑7)

HOLY COMMUNION
LORD’S PRAYEROur Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
and forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us;
and lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever and ever. Amen.
Reading: Haggai 1:2-9
2Thus says the LORD of hosts: These people say the time has not yet come to rebuild the LORD's house. 3Then the word of the LORD came by the prophet Haggai, saying: 4Is it a time for you yourselves to live in your paneled houses, while this house lies in ruins? 5Now therefore thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider how you have fared. 6You have sown much, and harvested little; you eat, but you never have enough; you drink, but you never have your fill; you clothe yourselves, but no one is warm; and you that earn wages earn wages to put them into a bag with holes.7Thus says the LORD of hosts: Consider how you have fared. 8Go up to the hills and bring wood and build the house, so that I may take pleasure in it and be honored, says the LORD. 9You have looked for much, and, lo, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why? says the LORD of hosts. Because my house lies in ruins, while all of you hurry off to your own houses.
Psalm: Psalm 37:1-11, 39-40
1 Do not be provoked by evildoers; do not be jealous of those who do wrong. 2 For they shall soon wither like the grass, and like the green grass fade away. 3 Put your trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and find safe pasture. 4 Take delight in the Lord, who shall give you your heart’s desire. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; put your trust in the Lord, and see what God will do. 6 The Lord will make your vindication as clear as the light and the justice of your case like the noonday sun. 7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently. Do not be provoked by the one who prospers, the one who succeeds in evil schemes. 8 Refrain from anger, leave rage alone; do not be provoked; it leads only to evil. 9 For evildoers shall be cut off, but those who hope in the Lord shall possess the land. 10 In a little while the wicked shall be no more; even if you search out their place, they will not be there. 11 But the lowly shall possess the land; they will delight in abundance of peace. 39 But the deliverance of the righteous comes from you, O Lord; you are their stronghold in time of trouble. 40 You, O Lord, will help them and rescue them; you will rescue them from the wicked and deliver them, because in you they seek refuge.
Hymn of the Day: The Church’s One Foundation (ELW 654) vs 1-3
Gospel: Matthew 7:24-29
The holy gospel according to Matthew.
ALL- Glory to you, O Lord.
24"Everyone then who hears these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock. 25The rain fell, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on rock. 26And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not act on them will be like a foolish man who built his house on sand. 27The rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell — and great was its fall!"28Now when Jesus had finished saying these things, the crowds were astounded at his teaching, 29for he taught them as one having authority, and not as their scribes.
The gospel of the Lord.
ALL- Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON: Pastor Katie Kringstad
Hymn OF THE DAY: The Church’s One Foundation (ELW 654) vs 4-5
Apostles’ creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.*
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
Prayers of Intercession
With the Spirit of Christ shining upon us, let us boldly pray for the church, the world, and all of creation.

ALL- hear our prayer.
We pray for leaders and policymakers who work to reduce violence in our nations, cities, and towns. Give your wisdom and discernment amid heated arguments and differing viewpoints. God of grace,
ALL- hear our prayer.
We pray for the victims of abuse and violence. Provide safe shelter and new beginnings to those experiencing domestic violence and dangerous situations. Enfold with love all who seek your healing care. God of grace,
ALL- hear our prayer.
Empower our faith communities to be signs of your gracious love. Bless the local ministries of parish nursing and caregiving, that they will be a voice for those in need in our communities. God of grace,
ALL- hear our prayer.
We give thanks for the enduring witness of those who have died before us. May their lives in you provide a witness of your everlasting grace. God of grace,
ALL- hear our prayer.
We entrust our prayers to you, O God, in the sure and certain hope that your promise is revealed among the people. Amen.
