CHILDREN’S MOMENT – 3rd Grade Bibles
THIRD GRADE BIBLES
If our third-grade families would please come forward.
Presider: Today is such an important day for our third graders Nick Sauvageau, Claire Kringstad, Elleigh Hoy, Cullen Mitchell, Lola Maack, Jax Mack, Lincoln Skytland, Elle Hagan, Paisley Ritterman, Decker Duerr, and Drake Lundblad as well as their parents as their parents fulfill the promise made in baptism to place the Holy scriptures in their child’s hands.
Parents if you would please face your child with their Bible in your hands.
This Bible is a gift from your church family here at Norman Lutheran Church. Nick Sauvageau, Claire Kringstad, Elleigh Hoy, Cullen Mitchell, Lola Maack, Jax Mack, Lincoln Skytland, Elle Hagan, Paisley Ritterman, Decker Duerr, and Drake Lundblad receive the gift of this Bible so that the story of God and God’s people may be with you at home, church, or wherever you shall choose to carry it. Enjoy reading how God is at work in the world, in nature and in history. Learn about the life and teachings of Jesus. Be open to how God may continue to speak to you through your reading of the scriptures.
Parents, please place your child’s Bible in their hands, then place your hand on their head and let us pray:
Blessed be your name, O Lord our God, you are the fount and source of every blessing! You have revealed yourself to us your children in many and diverse ways. Our memory of your revelation is in the Scriptures that these children hold in their hands. Look with delight upon these beautiful children today as they receive these Bibles to read and remember You in the stories of our salvation. Help them to absorb its wisdom and live its truth.
Walk with them and encourage them with the help of the Holy Spirit to use these sacred writings for inspiration, for the increase of faith and devotion, and for the building up of your Kingdom. Through your Word may we each be transformed into the very likeness of Christ, your Son, who lives and reigns with you forever and ever. Amen.
Inside your Bibles parents you will find a fun Bible worksheet that you and your child can complete at home to help learn how to navigate the Bible!
Reading: Judges 4:4-9
4At that time Deborah, a prophetess, wife of Lappidoth, was judging Israel. 5She used to sit under the palm of Deborah between Ramah and Bethel in the hill country of Ephraim; and the Israelites came up to her for judgment. 6She sent and summoned Barak son of Abinoam from Kedesh in Naphtali, and said to him, "The LORD, the God of Israel, commands you, 'Go, take position at Mount Tabor, bringing ten thousand from the tribe of Naphtali and the tribe of Zebulun. 7I will draw out Sisera, the general of Jabin's army, to meet you by the Wadi Kishon with his chariots and his troops; and I will give him into your hand.'" 8Barak said to her, "If you will go with me, I will go; but if you will not go with me, I will not go." 9And she said, "I will surely go with you; nevertheless, the road on which you are going will not lead to your glory, for the LORD will sell Sisera into the hand of a woman." Then Deborah got up and went with Barak to Kedesh.
Psalm: Psalm 146
1 Hal- | lelujah! Praise the Lord, | O my soul! 2 I will praise the Lord as long | as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I | have my being. 3 Put not your | trust in rulers, in mortals in whom there | is no help. 4 When they breathe their last, they re- | turn to earth, and in that day | their thoughts perish. R 5 Happy are they who have the God of Jacob | for their help, whose hope is in the | Lord their God; 6 who made heaven and earth, the seas, and all that | is in them; who keeps promis- | es forever; 7 who gives justice to those who are oppressed, and food to | those who hunger. The Lord sets the | captive free. 8 The Lord opens the eyes of the blind; the Lord lifts up those who | are bowed down; the Lord | loves the righteous. R 9 The Lord cares | for the stranger; the Lord sustains the orphan and widow, but frustrates the way | of the wicked. 10 The Lord shall | reign forever, your God, O Zion, throughout all generations. | Hallelujah! R
Hymn of the Day: Praise to the Lord the Almighty (859) vs 1-2
The holy gospel according to Luke
Glory to you, O Lord.
Gospel: Luke 8:1-3
1Soon afterwards he went on through cities and villages, proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God. The twelve were with him, 2as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, 3and Joanna, the wife of Herod's steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources.
The gospel of the Lord.
Praise to you, O Christ.
SERMON
Hymn OF THE DAY: Praise to the Lord the Almighty (859) vs 3-4
Apostles’ creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.*
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting. Amen.
