PRELUDE/BELL

WELCOME:

P: “The Lord be with you!   R:   And also, with you

GATHERING

This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it. The Holy Spirit calls us together as the people of God.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

Gathering Song: Here, I am Lord (ELW 574)

Peace

Confession and Forgiveness (ELW p. 94).

Prayer of the Day

Let us pray. A brief silence is kept before the prayer.

ALL- Sovereign God, you have created us to live in loving community with one another. Form us for life that is faithful and steadfast, and teach us to trust like little children, that we may reflect the image of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and Lord.

Amen.

CHILDREN’S MOMENT

READING: Genesis 37:2-8

2This is the story of the family of Jacob.  Joseph, being seventeen years old, was shepherding the flock with his brothers; he was a helper to the sons of Bilhah and Zilpah, his father's wives; and Joseph brought a bad report of them to their father. 3Now Israel loved Joseph more than any other of his children, because he was the son of his old age; and he had made him a long robe with sleeves. 4But when his brothers saw that their father loved him more than all his brothers, they hated him, and could not speak peaceably to him.  5Once Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him even more. 6He said to them, "Listen to this dream that I dreamed. 7There we were, binding sheaves in the field. Suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright; then your sheaves gathered around it, and bowed down to my sheaf." 8His brothers said to him, "Are you indeed to reign over us? Are you indeed to have dominion over us?" So they hated him even more because of his dreams and his words.

PSALM: Psalm 8

1O | Lord our Lord,    how majestic is your name in | all the earth!—

2you whose glory is chanted above the heavens out of the mouths of in- | fants and children;    you have set up a fortress against your enemies, to silence the foe | and avenger.

3When I consider your heavens, the work | of your fingers,    the moon and the stars you have set | in their courses,   4what are mere mortals that you should be mind- | ful of them,    human beings that you should | care for them? R

5Yet you have made them little less | than divine;    with glory and hon- | or you crown them.   6You have made them rule over the works | of your hands;    you have put all things un- | der their feet:

7all | flocks and cattle,    even the wild beasts | of the field,   8the birds of the air, the fish | of the sea,    and whatever passes along the paths | of the sea.

9O | Lord our Lord,    how majestic is your name in | all the earth! R

HYMN OF THE DAY: When Peace Like a River (785) vs. 1-2

Gospel: Luke 6:35-38

Pastor- The Holy Gospel according to Luke

ALL- GLORY TO YOU, O LORD

35But love your enemies, do good, and lend, expecting nothing in return. Your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High; for he is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked. 36Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.

37Do not judge, and you will not be judged; do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven; 38give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap; for the measure you give will be the measure you get back."

Pastor- The Gospel of the Lord

ALL- PRAISE TO YOU, O CHRIST

Sermon Pastor Katie

Hymn of the Day:When Peace Like a River (785) vs. 3-4

APOSTLES’ Creed (ELW p. 152)

I believe in God, the Father almighty,

creator of heaven and earth.

I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,

who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,

born of the virgin Mary,

suffered under Pontius Pilate,

was crucified, died, and was buried;

he descended to the dead.*

On the third day he rose again;

he ascended into heaven,

he is seated at the right hand of the Father,

and he will come to judge the living and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

the holy catholic church,

the communion of saints,

the forgiveness of sins,

the resurrection of the body,

and the life everlasting. Amen.

Prayers of Intercession

Challenged by God’s Word in Christ, let us pray for the church, the world, and the whole creation.

A brief silence.

God f our ancestors, we give thanks for the church in all times. May we listen for the prophets of this age who bear messages that stir the church toward renewal and justice. God of grace,

hear our prayer.

Creator of every creature on earth, direct our lives toward the renewal and sustaining of cattle, birds of the air, animals of the field, and those who share our homes. Reveal the ways we can work alongside creation for the health and well-being of all. God of grace,

hear our prayer.

Sovereign God, we give thanks that you are mindful and benevolent to even us, mere mortals. Accompany us when hardness of heart gets in the way of justice between people and nations. Endow leaders with minds for justice and hearts for compassion. God of grace,

hear our prayer.

Restoring Lord, grant healing and wholeness to those who are sick and suffering. Work through medical professionals to diagnose, ease pain, and give life to all who seek their wisdom and experience. God of grace,

hear our prayer.

Unifying God, humans were created for relationship with the earth, its creatures, and one another. Forgive us when division threatens companionship, mutual support, and unity among us. May your love inspire us to build supportive communities of faith where all are cherished. God of grace,

hear our prayer.

God of resurrection, you prepare a place in the kingdom through Christ’s death and resurrection. We give thanks for the saints who have taken their place at your heavenly banquet. God of grace,

hear our prayer.

Into your hands, O God, we commend all for whom we pray, trusting in the saving grace you freely give, both now and forever.  Amen.

Offering SONG: There is a Balm in Gilead (#614)

Offering Prayer (ELW p. 152)

Let us pray,

ALL-Blessed are you, O God, maker of all things. Through your goodness, you have blessed us with these gifts: ourselves, our time, and our possessions. Use us, and what we have gathered, in feeding the world with your love, through the one who gave himself for us, Jesus Christ, our Savior, and Lord.  Amen.

Sending

God blesses us and sends us in mission to the world.

Blessing (ELW p. 155)

The Lord bless you and keep you.

The Lord’s face shine upon and be gracious to you.

The Lord look upon you with favor and ☩ give you peace. In the name of the Father, Son & Holy Spirit. Amen.

Sending Song: I’ll Fly Away

Some glad morning when this life is over I'll fly away  To that home on God's celestial shore  I'll fly away, everybody say right here

I'll fly away, oh glory  I'll fly away in the morning  When I die Hallelujah, by and by  I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days and then  I'll fly away

To a land where joys will never end  I'll fly away, here we go

I'll fly away, oh glory  I'll fly away in the morning  When I die Hallelujah, by and by  I'll fly away, little sister let me hear you play

Just a few more weary days and then  Let me hear it, I'll fly away  To a land where joys will never end

I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory  I'll fly away in the morning  When I die Hallelujah, by and by  I'll fly away, one more time real loud

I'll fly away, oh glory  I'll fly away in the morning  When I die Hallelujah, by and by  I'll fly away, big finish

When I die Hallelujah, by and by  I'll fly away

Dismissal

Go in peace. Serve the Lord. Thanks be to God.
