CONFIRMATION / AFFIRMATION OF BAPTISM
Dear friends, we give thanks for the gift of baptism as we come before God to make a public affirmation of baptism into Christ. If our confirmands would please come forward.
I present Elise Anderson, Brady Baumgarten, Ida Berg, Teige Erdmann, Brock Johnson, Javen Johnson, Madelyn Kjelstrup, Henry Kuznia, Cruz Lindemann, Zoe Richard, Braydon Roberts, Luke Starcevic, Noach Swenson, Cade Westby, Owen Wold. (Norman Lutheran). Anthony Ebens (Davenport Lutheran) who desire to make a public affirmation of their baptism on this day.
Let us pray.
Merciful God, we thank you that you have made us your own by water and the Word in baptism. You have called us to yourself, enlightened us with the gifts of your Spirit, and nourished us in the community of faith. Uphold us and all your servants in the gifts and promises of baptism, and unite the hearts of all whom you have brought to new birth. We ask this in the name of Christ. Amen.
PROFESSION OF FAITH
The presiding minister addresses those making public affirmation of baptism.
I ask you Elise, Brady, Ida, Teige, Brock, Javen, Madelyn, Henry, Cruz, Zoe, Braydon, Luke, Noach, Cade, and Owen (Anthony) to profess your faith in Christ Jesus, reject sin, and confess the faith of the church.
Do you renounce the devil and all the forces that defy God,
the powers of this world that rebel against God,
and the ways of sin that draw you from God?
Response:
I renounce them.
The presiding minister addresses the candidates and the assembly.
Do you believe in God the Father?
I believe in God, the Father almighty,
creator of heaven and earth.
Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God?
I believe in Jesus Christ, God’s only Son, our Lord,
who was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
born of the virgin Mary,
suffered under Pontius Pilate,
was crucified, died, and was buried;
he descended to the dead.*
On the third day he rose again;
he ascended into heaven,
he is seated at the right hand of the Father,
and he will come to judge the living and the dead.
Do you believe in God the Holy Spirit?
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic church,
the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins,
the resurrection of the body,
and the life everlasting.

The presiding minister addresses those making public affirmation of baptism.
You have made public profession of your faith. Do you intend to continue in the covenant God made with you in holy baptism:
to live among God’s faithful people,

Each person responds:
I do, and I ask God to help and guide me.

Your mercy is great.
God our liberator, we pray for your earth. Bring new life to overused land and contaminated rivers. Reform and reorient our relationship with the environment, that we faithfully care for all of your creation. Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.
God, our refuge and strength, we pray for the nations. Where they are in an uproar, bring wise leadership and comfort for those in distress. Make wars to cease and peace to enter every land. Hear us, O God. Your mercy is great.
God, our very present help in trouble, we pray for those in need. Show mercy to refugees and all fleeing from danger. Shelter any without homes. Calm all who are facing illness, surgery, or a new diagnosis. Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.
God our redeemer, we pray for our congregation. Bless all who are preparing for baptism or affirmation of baptism. Open their hearts to your Holy Spirit, teach them your word, and give them courage to proclaim their faith. Hear us, O God.
Your mercy is great.
God our stronghold, we give thanks for those who have gone before us in faith, especially Martin Luther and all reformers. Renew and reform us as we strive to continue in your word. Hear us, O God.
